The place which is home

Posted on May 3rd, 2009 by HummingBird : Joy HummingBird
Heartear

After our long struggle for liberation, South Africa has placed economics above our hard won progressive stand for human rights and plain down right decency toward our fellow human beings. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is an international icon of peace and compassion - objectively it makes no sense at all to ban such a person from any country. Personally, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is my spiritual leader and I feel very sad that my country has slammed its door closed in the face of someone so precious. I realise, in order not to feel loss and bereavement, that which I call home can no longer be limited to the soil on which I stand but has to expand to the place of my heart. We should all follow the example of His Holiness and embrace all beings lovingly. I hope the people governing the place where I was born will soon learn from their error, open their hearts and allow their actions to be governed by loving kindness rather than fear.

Aye, the only place which is home is through the heart.

The truth is sobering
but it is liberating as well

Unless we know it
we cannot know where we stand
or what work needs to be done

Knowing the root of the problem
is more important
than simply feeling it's effect all the time

identifiying the root of the problem
like minds, like hearts
can coalesce and support each other
uniting for the common cause of humanity
to focus energy exactly where it is needed
to remove the obscuration leading to the suffering

Hey beautiful! I screamed in such bliss when I heard that the Dalai Lama would be granted permission after all, to visit your country! I was sooo happy to hear! I know how this has caused quite some anguish for you. So I hope that this turnaround is indication of 'common sense prevailing' and perhaps a little bit of letgo of ego. We can pray for this.

This is the news article I am referring to: http://www.zeenews.com/news532037.html in my postings.

I wish I could be there to meet him! He's such a lovely person :D

With love and blessings, Sherri

Sherri, I love your empathy and enthusiasm, thank you :)
Yes, it does look hopeful. The proof will come with the pudding if or when the Dalai Lama is invited again. I hope you do meet him

So pleased to hear about this turnaround.
I wondered tonight if what Satya has started for his partner might help support Aung San Suu Kyi, what if we all sent her letters of love and support, to let them know the world is watching and working for her release

True, Zephyr, Aung San Suu Kyi deserves the world's attention… seems time is way overdue for the world to say 'enough - free this noble being!'

Friend, stop a moment
(poem for Burma)

Come, friend, sit beside me
on the river bank
Hear the ripples break the stillness
See the leaf bob on the waters

Now lightning strikes the water
A body floats by
And the earth
On which we sit turns scarlet

A child whose face
Is blank with despair
Sits amongst silent corpses
Looking at the murderer
Who does not see, nor hear nor feel

Oh, may we be his eyes,
his ears and his heart!

Hush, hear the goddess
who reigns this land
Whose precious feet walk
alongside those of Ghandi,
His Holiness the Dalai Lama,
Mandela and other noble warriors

Hush, hear her heart
beat the anguish
of mothers who have seen
their children raped and desecrated

Hush, hear her whisper
to her Buddha children

“and yet… and yet
DO NO HARM”

See her face imprinted
on the hearts of saffron robed soldiers

Oh, what have we done!

thank you, Zephyr - gottit this time. The situation in Burma is terrible - it seems people see it as hopeless - do you know Roland - he may call himself 'Burmanews' - he's here on Gaia - he blogs 24/7 for Burma - check my list of friends and have a chat to him
