Buddhist Relics Tour 2009, Johannesburg South Africa

Please click here to see photograph album

The Buddhist Relic Tour was a great success on it's 1st visit to Africa. More than 2000 people visited Lam Rim Centre in Johannesburg to see the relics. There was a great sense of peacefulness and gentleness on every person’s face as they left the centre.

I am still assimilating the experience and sense it's going to take many weeks to do this. Somehow words are not flowing now - though the eyes do! I am grateful that Gien has written about his experiences here

Hi Hummingbird. What was the relic, was it a crystal?  Crystals can vibrate and glow.

Zephyr there's information about the relics here. I've extracted a bit -

The relics were found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters. They resemble beautiful pearl-like crystals. Buddhists believe the relics are produced as a result of the master's spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom. Since we can all develop these qualities, the relics are a reminder of our own essential nature of purity and our inner potential to manifest that. The collection includes relics of the historical Buddha and the Buddha’s closest disciples as well as many other well-known Buddhist masters from Chinese, Indian, Korean and Tibetan traditions.

Thank you for sharing the Buddhist Relics sacred event.  I have gained through this visual and reading both yours and Glen's stories.  This photo grabbed me first, and the love in this is pure. If anyone were ever in doubt seeing this would move anyone from that condition.  What a stellar event and beautiful accounting of the source of these relics from Glen who said and I share from just reading: This sign has changed my way of experiencing reality.” This shows our potential is always greater and anything is possible through this knowledge and pure love.  I look forward to this being in One Light Many Windows.  The light is on here for all to see.
Deep bows,
Kathy

I had heard of something like this & always wondered about the relics and now we see them for real.  It must have been so spiritual in that space for this event.  Thanks for bringing it to One Light Many Windows as either Teachings of Masters and the Forum… my view.

perhaps the relics could be in the symbols room, and if you have long texts, how about the TOM room in OLMW?

Thank you Anna for sharing this most precious event here. I had seen the pics on your FB site already but reading some of the story behind it gave it a lot more depth and insight to me.
I enjoyed Giens blog about it as well.
I linked on to the page of the tour and noticed to my great joy that the tour will be in the Netherlands at the end of october, so if I'm in Holland at that time (planning a little trip) it will be well worth to go there. It is something to very much  look forward to. I'm not a Buddhist but the mere though of going there sparks a love glow within.

Lucienne, that's wonderful. More than 2,000 people came to see them in Johannesburg - most of them not Buddhists because there are very few Buddhists in South Africa. Almost everyone was moved by the experience. I look forwward to hearing your experience
